Bread Pudding With Vanilla Sauce Recipe

Bread pudding with a vanilla sauce

Ingredients

    Bread Pudding
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces butter, softened
  • 1 loaf white bread, cubed
  • Vanilla Sauce
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 4 ounces sugar
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
  • 1 cup milk (for a non-dairy alternative try Silk soy milk used by Disney)
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

    Bread Pudding
  1. Place cubed bread in loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl , combine eggs and sugar. Mix well.
  3. Add cream, salt and cinnamon. Mix well.
  4. Pour custard over bread cubes.
  5. Press down so custard soaks in well.
  6. Place soft butter on top of bread.
  7. Bake in a water bath at 325 degrees for approximately one hour until golden brown and custard is firm.
  8. Serve with vanilla sauce.
  9. Vanilla Sauce
  10. In a saute pan, combine milk, cream, and vanilla bean.
  11. Bring to boil.
  12. In a mixing bowl , combine egg yolks and sugar.
  13. Slowly pour boiled milk and cream in egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly.
  14. Return to heat and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Do not boil.
  15. Strain. Chill in an ice bath.
